I wonder why it's so hard to set up high speed internet! My aunt is having it installed by the company she's buying it from, while I just installed mine myself.She always acts as if she knows what she's doing, so why does she need not to install it herself. She also has to pay for the installation too.

u pay for it to be done right some people are like that like my mom.shes need her oil checked and went to express oil changed and the checked and it cost her like 10 dollars when i could have done it for free. she didnt need to chnage her oil only needed it checked. Some people just refuse to think that there wrong so they do it there way

Cable Internet isn't that hard to install, hell, with Windows XP/Vista, Linux, or OSX, its practically plug and play. Just plug the ethernet cable from your cable modem into your network card and the OS does the rest.

DSL on the other hand is a (Expletive deleted) to set up, especially with a router.

I'm a total idiot with these kinds of things, but I didn't have any trouble self-installing my DSL (saved me $120 not having someone from AT&T come out to do it); the only pain was not knowing exactly when the connection would be activated...hard to tell if it's done correctly when nothing happens for four or five hours.

They CHARGE for installation? Wow, that is pretty much a unknown concept in Canada. Hell Shaw cable came and set up my cable, phone and internet for free, took about an hour, and then gave us 3 months free service because we bundled our package. And we only pay about 50 bucks a month.

Lucky you...when we got cable in our first apartment, we were required to have someone come out and "install" it...which consisted of taking the cable that was already in the room and hooking it up to the TV. Cost $50 bucks for something I could have done myself in 30 seconds.

Comcast charges 100 bucks/month for phone, cable and internet service...and that's the introductory rate for the first three months. I have a local cable company now, and my internet and phone through AT&T, and it still costs me less than that.

On the topic of the thread though, it is stupid to pay for someone to do something for you when you're provided with detailed instructions or otherwise have strong knowledge of the task. But I can vouch for people who are a little uncomfortable having family/friends do things for them, like working on a car or anything else that's expensive to replace. If a mechanic blows up your car while changing the oil, you can be compensated. If your idiot brother does it, you end up paying for the damages yourself.
