The Internet is pretty much the most impressive accomplishment our generation has come up with so far. We've come so far with Internet technology so fast that it's hard to keep up with all we are able to do with the Internet. But off and on I've been wondering lately; what does the future look like for the Internet? Since we're using the world wide web right now to discuss this, I'd like to focus more on that element of the Internet; how do you think web browsing and the Internet will change in say 50 years? Will it become more commercialized and strict? Will sites like this still exist, or will they collapse and fall into obscurity? What about sites like Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook? Will new sites take their place, and what innovations might they bring? What will the average age demographic be? Will us 'old' users begin retiring from using the internet, or we still be lurking its pages?

These are just a handful of the questions that come to my mind, but have any of you ever wondered where the Internet is going or how it might change?

I'm sure the internet will become more commercialized... It will be like the whole "switching to digital tv" thing, where everything will have to be done online. XD I'm sure sites like this will still be around, but indeed a bit obscure, as new sites will pop up and push the little guys in the background, so to speak. MySpace and sites like that will be around still, but I have a feeling that they will be also be pushed aside for something new.

I suppose it also depends on the state of world... What's going on socially would prompt a change in internet "culture." The sites people view, and the things they search for will change.

Not to mention changes in technology - That would bring all sorts of new products, games, computers, etc. to the market.

I know I'd still be surfing the net... XD But who's to say... I'll be 74 by then... I might be too busy being awesome and sailing around the world to be surfing the net. LOL!

I feel like I AM one of those "old users" Dark is making mention of. I've been on the net for about 14 years. Back when if you're dial up modem was higher than like 28.8k, you were the sh*t in my neighborhood. I had a GeoCities page waaay before Yahoo! bought them out. Still have it to this day!

The internet has made some signifigant changes, but it pretty much still remains the same if you think about it. It's just a LOT faster. You can say it looks different/prettier (whatever), but that's thanks to an advance in technology as a whole.

I'd like to imagine that 50 years from now, the net would be a place you can virtually walk through. Kinda like in 'Futurama'.

It will probably be a whole lot more pervasive than it is now. (Unless there's a new world war in the next 50 years of course.)
Constant connection to the internet for all who can afford it. The possibilities of what you can do with it will have expanded quite a bit as well, advancing along with the advancements in technology in general.

I think internet would control almost every aspect of daily life,...and the access to net would be easier and can be accessed through many means...

of course...cyber criminals would be a lot wider and more complicated... o.o more new problems rather than easy porn access would emerge...

It will probably be like Ghost in the Shell, where you can directly access the net through implants in your brain.

Maybe I'll be able to transfer my 70 year old brain into a hot cybernetic body by then.

Let's see, I think there will be some changes, big and small, but I really can't see some BIG,HUGE changes like everyone has said so far. That's just me though. I can't really believe it all that much unless I see it(well with this I do).
