you should do what you feel is right even though some people might not support what you believe in or want to do.
so go with your gut feeling its better than feeling regret afterward.
So... I just joined the marines. Im in for 8 years. The thing is, half of my friends are against me on this because they hate the government so, what should i do?

if your friends can't support a friend who wants to serve their country, tell them to **** themselves. I hate the military in general, it's not a career I would ever want for myself or my children. However, half my friends are in the military, and even though I wouldn't have chosen that path, they did, and I respect them for it. One of my friends is in Iraq right now in fact... you should tell your friends they shouldn't let their petty politics get in the way of friendship. Plus it's your choice, not theirs. If they can't at the very least respect your choice, they probably aren't real friends.
Well since you already joined, coming back from your decision isn't really gonna work now is it? If you really cared all that much about what they think then wouldn't you have asked them about it before and based your decision on that?
Politics and ruin friendships but then again, so can a lot of other things. If you really want to join the military then your friends can either respect your choice or stop being your friends.
If joining the marines is what you really want and you are happy with it , your friends and family will accept that but if their opinion was really super duper improtant then in my case i would have asked them about what their opinion was and explain what my decision is and why.

Congratulation to join military and serve your country.
To serve on your country's military is a great thing, and your friends should respect this. I have served 5 years in People's Army, and I am so proud to had this experience and be part of protecting my country. You should be proud too, you will get a great skill, and I hear that USA military is very good quality.

My self and my family are very big supporters of our military, as we also have family members and friends who were and or are serving. I have a cousin who is in the air force and she is deployed, I also have many friends who are or were serving and I love and care about them and hope they stay safe as they do their duty, as I am proud of you and hope you will stay safe while you serv. As for my self and a few other members of my family we support our troops in that we help build the MQ-1 and MQ-9 Predator and Reaper drones whose rolls are surveillance and close ground support air craft. I am proud to know I am contributing in a way.
If your friends can't set aside their hate and give you support for joining the military then it shows that they are not your friends because they basically condemn you at a drop of a hat simply about something you choose which they disagree with.
I wish you the best of luck and I know you will make new friends with in the military, and as time goes on, they will become your brothers and sisters as they will watch over you which you will intern watch over them.
