Are mythical stories true?

We've all heard mythical stories through out our childhood. But do the stories mean something? Wore they just made up to scare us into doing something or to make us act a certian way, or are the stories theirselfs the product of truth?
I believe to an extent some of the stories are true, at least in the moral and educational sense. What about you guys?

In my opinion i think that there is something out there, and heck i even believe in vampires and werewolves. But maybe they are not real. I would say that some of the stories are real and some are just to scare us.

Most of the stories are based off of something that did happen or was seen. But along the way, they were mostly embelished some each time they were told. So you have a story that was based on something that was real but it is not really the full truth anymore.

When something is found to be true it ceases to by "mythical".
Myths are, by definition, untruths.

True, I do know that they finally found the city of Troy. From the story Helen of Troy. But for many generations that was just a myth. Some stories we'll never find the proof of them. So even though they really happened they are still considered to be a myth. When in fact they were real. So even though myths are considered untruths, they sometimes aren't. We just can't find the concrete proof that science needs.

I agree with you, fireandice. Myths really are just that until they are proven true. Mythbusters seems to do a fairly good job in what they do though. =D

However, I can still believe some myths. Although, I'd rather not say which ones.

I say that they are meant to teach us a moral lesson.

I mean like they say anything is possible but to me some things aren't.
But even if the strois arent true the lessons they teach can be used.
I hope that made sence. ^_^
