First of all you gotta be stupid/emo/have no life to do what a freaking song is telling in its lyrics to do. Secondly, i don't think that a song's sublimial message can motivate you to do such thing as to commit suicide unless you fall under the three things that i mentioned above.
Re: subliminal messages from songs
the last part i mentioned said none of this makes no sense but i search online and on tv most of it the songs are trying to make the listener do ur right there idiots if they do but in some cases its happened
Re: subliminal messages from songs
There's been debates about subliminal messages in songs for years, especially during the 70's, when you had people against psychadelic rock. The main thing you have to think about though, is if there IS subliminal messages in the songs, wouldn't we be seeing a huge trend of copy-cat acts? Like, if someone DID put in "kill yourself" in a disc, and it somehow worked, then would not everyone who heard the disc kill themselves?
Plus, like what Ketaro said, a subliminal message can't make you do anything. It's just a hidden message that you aren't aware of, and is really no different than regular advertising. You see commercials for 1000 different things a day, but you don't go out and buy every single item....
Re: subliminal messages from songs
The real question is are you talking about subliminal messages (aka. hidden lyrics that can be picked up by the subconcious) or simply messages 'hidden' in the lyrics?
Re: subliminal messages from songs
I think the entire thing is made up from peoples with strong imaginations.

Re: subliminal messages from songs
I think there is one song that explained this very well. Its called Sing for the Moment by Eminem. In this song he speaks about how kids that have really messed up lives turn to music and artist for guidance. If someone looks up to you and you always talk about killing yourself then they think thats the way to go. Music is very influential among children and teenagers. Music is a form of communicating emotions which children are very sensitive to. People are effected by these messages until they have emotionally matured.
Another thing is the whole thug/gangsta/treating girls like crap thing going on. Like I said before kids who have nothing look to others for something to give them hope. Most of the people who live in the ghetto (like me) want to be big time rappers with 24 inch chain and a grill too shiny to look at. Kids only want to be like their role models.
