A lot of hearts are broken and emotions turn cold through the years of high school because teens put so much effort towards the emotion love, only to later be left by the one they loved, because a lot of people change through the years, and gain different dis/likes, and then after graduation... well, most couples, most highschool sweethearts don't last.
If you're looking for the one you love and will charish throughout the rest of your years, don't leave yourself completely open, you do that and you may, MAY, get hurt. But if you keep enough control over your feelings and center yourself in finding that one special spark from that person, then take it slowly, be friends before you deside to add anymore.
You don't want to rush an emotion, whether it be anger, sadness or love. If you do, pain follows. Take your time with love, you need to charish it, and speaking metaphoricly, you need to caress it, love isn't something that will just fall into your life without needing care. You have your life ahead of you, and this emotion love doesn't like to be toyed with, so take your time and be patient, it will be worth it.
