No but the looner soil when mixed with proper chemicals produce a rather nice fuel source, how ever there are two problems, 1 being that there will be people protesting against it, and 2, cost ineffective do to the amount of money needed to build a rocket to travel there and back.

*Ahh, it feels good to be back on AO*

Thing is, just because there's water/ice on the moon, it doesn't mean that life could exist there. It's mostly ice and the dark side of the moon is very, very cold. We don't even know if there is enough water/ice there for the moon to be a good place to colonize/live on. It's a pretty groovy idea though. ^_^

It sure as heck beats the idea of the moon being full of cheese.

Though in reality, there is no 'Dark Side' to the moon. There's a 'Far Side' that is not visible to from earth, but it's in full Sunlight during a 'New Moon', and is in darkness during a 'Full Moon'. The only dark cold places would be at the lunar poles, which are in perpetual twilight, with some of the deep crater floors in permanent shadow...

    ^

The Moon probably just drooled a bit.

But yeah..not very new news. Interesting, but not much more then that.
Hmm...it'd be really interesting if we could find a large puddle or very small pool that did lead to an underwater supply. But that's might be like leftover ice and such.

Someone probably just spilled their Aquafina. But this really that much of a surprise. They said that Mars had water and Mars is an extremely hot surfaced planet. You would think the water would evaporate.

Mars is actually very cold, its Venus that is very hot. The reason for each of them to go opposite ways is actually very interesting, but its too long to get into now.

While this is interesting in its own right I don't see it leading to any kind of settlement on the moon. Maybe something military far in the future, but its just too expensive for me to believe anything commercial will come out of it. There isn't much gained by setting up a colony on the moon, especially since the technology required to sustain a breathable atmosphere either through a closed structure(while being cost effective) or by terraforming is just mind boggling. There is a reason there is little atmosphere there and fighting physics on that scale is no small task. Not to mention the time it would take to get a tertiary atmosphere on a planetary body that we actually managed to get a carbon cycle going on. The hard part about terraforming a planet, such as those found in our solar system, is not what you do on the surface.
