Why that character? Choosing for cosplaying...

I'm doing a cultural report for a SF class on cosplay (especially at anime conventions), and I was wondering if anyone would mind helping me? I put a link below to the survey I created in order to gather research. Basically, I am trying to figure out why people choose certain characters to cosplay as and how much role playing goes into cosplay at cons and such. Also, I am interested in how you feel about cross-playing... Is it different when a male or female cross-plays? At the last con I went to, I noticed alot of girls crossing-playing, but not as many boys, and the ones who did seemed to have a more humorous intent than the girls... Any opinions?

Crossplay? Probably because in this society, it is far more acceptably for a girl to crossdress than for a boy to crossdress, and so the same sorta goes for cosplay. Also! It may be because a lot of male anime characters have a rather feminine appearance, and so girls could cosplay as them quite well.
