Thread: Why do we have dreams?????

When we sleep we can't completely turn off or we would be dead... so that part of our mind that still works when we are fast asleep never rests. It continues. Some call it the subconscious. Some say it is the limbic part of our brain that still conjures up images and feels emotions. It affects the heart making it beat faster or slower depending on the content of the dream. If the dream is lucid there is control but most dreams are weird, sometimes in color, sometimes in black and white. Sometimes they reflect what you fear or what you most desire. They are the minds battleground or science lab testing out thoughts and emotions you might not dare do in real life.. just playing with "what ifs?". Your mind cannot help it since the limbic systems nerves is attached all the way to the heart it is very emotional and seems real when you dream.

There is an old saying. Everything happens twice. Once in the mind and once in real life. Some dreams you want to act out. Some dreams are embarrassing (walking naked in school) Those dreams are out of curiosity not something you want to come true. Just your heart and mind playing with you. For kicks. you know. The best way to deal with it is to have a sense of humour as the mind is only limited by imagination (which has no limits) and see dreaming as like a holodeck (Star Trek). You can program it to any time period, scenario, characters, personality, action, and sound. It is not real, but can inspire to, as John Luke Picard would say "Make it so!"

The subconscious is trainable.... like repeating something over and over so you won't forget for a school test. So train your mind through hypnosis and repetition and your subconscious will work with you instead of against you. I've train my mind to wake up a certain time, and what I'd like to work on is spider sense like what Peter Parker has... the ability to sense danger.

There are books on the subject in the library. You can study dream symbols in dream dictionaries, astral travel, psychoanalysis, the occult. Just don't play with Ouija boards, they are evil.

ur quite right .even i trained my mind to wake up at a certain time .if you can further train our mind , you can even do lucid dreaming , like i do =D the only thing that gets in my way is the event of "false wakenings"

That is something that I wonder about, but not something that I ever question (if you get my meaning), because as an artist and a writer, dreams are something that I love to take advantage of because if you can put your mind to it, you can turn the most heartwarming, fearful, or even the wierdest dreams into powerful ideas.
