![]() Credits: 652 | Yoga When people think of yoga, they often think of pretzel people -- but yoga isn't just about poses (or asanas). In fact the word "yoga" just means "yoke" or "unite" -- and the union is a spiritual one between you and the universe around you. Some forms of yoga pay a lot more attention to the breath and meditation than they do to developing killer upper arms or super-flexible legs -- for instance Kundalini, which focuses on awakening the energy that lies "coiled like a serpent at the base of the spine", and Sivananda which emphasizes proper diet, relaxation, and positive thinking as well as asanas. Always check with your doctor before you start a new exercise regime, by the way. I do Yaga and I enjoy it. So what do you think about Yaga? be honest! |

| Why so serious? | Re: Yoga In all my seven, eight years of dancing.. I have never been introduced to Yoga. I want to learn how to do it. That and the art of zen, and meditation. They are all forms of connecting with your "inner self". It's a nice way to relax and focus is what I've heard. I haven't done it, but I'd like to. |

| Why so serious? | Re: Yoga Is it true that it helps you become more flexible as well. Or is that just a myth? Because different people are made with different bodies and are not always able to "flex" certain parts of their bodies. I'm only asking because it seems you have taken yoga before. |

![]() ![]() Credits: 33,031 | Re: Yoga the flexibility depends on what type of Yoga as there is one for strength and one for flexibility. I myself out of all of my 12 years of dancing has taken TWO yoga classes and will never do it again. I felt sick while trying to do yoga and light headed. I didn't want to do that all over again. For i am more of a pilates kind of dancer, which does also focus on breathing and co-ordination with the breath and movement. essential for Humphrey dancers ![]()

![]() ![]() Credits: 14,887 | Re: Yoga The only way to lose yourself into your inner-self through meditation is yoga. Or something like that. Yoga is an acient art, which makes the person performing it connect him/herself to his/her inner self. It makes you relaxed, concentrated, flexible, fresh and what not. Many body problems can be cured by yoga, and that's the beauty of it. And it's not about the complicated Arsans it is also about how you can calm yourself. It's brilliant, try it out. ^_^

God's Little Girl | Re: Yoga I'd consider taking up yoga if there wasn't all that spiritual Hindu stuff involved. It doesn't seem right to me to immerse myself in something that may potentially go against my own religion. I won't be surprised if other religious people share the same views.

![]() Wo chao xi huan ni | Re: Yoga I tried yoga once, but it just really wasn't for me. I think in part it was the whole spiritual aspect, like blue_rebel said... Also, like Sazzy, I am much more of a pilates person ^_^ It is much more straightforward and, in my opinion, easier to see the results in pilates than in yoga hehe

| Why so serious? | Re: Yoga I am also much more of a pilates person. I love pilates. It strengthens your abs and muscles. It's really nice. Where yoga is more of the "spirtual connection" type thing. Leading towards meditation and whatnot. Pilates is nice. I enjoy it. |
