    Grumble Grumble Grumble

    The latest chapter of this high tech soap opera is just started...
    MTV owner Viacom Inc. said Tuesday it has sued YouTube and its corporate parent Google Inc. in federal court for alleged copyright infringement and is seeking more than $1 billion in damages.
    Viacom sues YouTube for $1 billion
    Viacom said YouTube’s business model, “which is based on building traffic and selling advertising off of unlicensed content, is clearly illegal and is in obvious conflict with copyright laws.”

    Viacom said YouTube has avoided taking the initiative to curtail copyright infringement on its site, instead shifting the burden and costs of monitoring the video-sharing site for unauthorized clips onto the “victims of its infringement.”

    Since YouTube has long had a marketing policy based on the posting of pirated material, legal challenges are not that surprising... So, any bets on how much time YouTube has left????

    Its Google we're talking about here. Google will most likely fight this, or it just might bow to their wishes and close youtube, concidering the hit its stock took when this was announced: GOOG - Google Inc. - Google Finance

    But lets face it, If Youtube falls, another will take its place, and this time it'll be set up in a country that can't be touched by copyright law. 'tis the nature of the interweb
