    Miss America, role model?

I just got done watching the Miss America pageant, usually the girl who is kinda real that I wanted to win never wins. This time it was Miss Virgina, which I was kinda hoping she would win, that or Miss District of Columbia.

I love to watch the evening wear round and the question round. Some of the dresses are just ugly, and the question round is the best to watch them squirm to come up with an answer thats positive and that the majority of people would agree with.

I hate that the girls have to smile constantly and act all happy for each other. You know they hope one of them trips in their heels and falls down the stairs. So thats what I most hate about the pageant is the fake niceness, and constant positive outlook.

Is that what people think the perfect girl or role model is about? Acting fake happy, smiling, and being pretty. Whats wrong with having a personality, saying what you believe and being real.

I for one think "Oh she is pretty, she will be a good Miss America." Thats about it, I totally don't look up to them. I can't relate to a girl who is that nice and perfect, because its not real.

What are your thoughts are the Miss America pageant?

    Signature is a Gwenibe original.

    Re: Miss America, role model?

I'm never really interested in Miss America... it just reminds me of the SoCal Valley girls we got down here. Fake smiles, faker personalities, and just pretty themselves up to "deserve" their needy and selfish tastes.

...only thing they're missing is some of the fake accents some of the Miss America girls try to throw out the audience to seem "genuine".

I honestly was glad when the Miss America pageant stuff was getting desperate as their viewers dwindled (not too glad that it still exists), because as much as the Miss America pageants were a part of my American TV life, I never liked it and it's just filled with... with... I dunno, "fakeness".

"Whats wrong with having a personality, saying what you believe and being real."
It means you're imperfect, and that means America's imperfect. And people don't want that. People want America to be grand and glorious and caring and perfect.

Not only that, but I'd somewhat disagree with that statement... I've met people who are too strong in personality and love to speak every little thing in their heads. No understanding of respect, patience, and many times maturity.
Being real, I agree with. But not much people can be trusted with "having a personality" and "saying what you believe". They need to grow up a little first.

...besides, someone did try to say what they believed. Miss California, wasn't it? ()
And BAM. We all know what happened to her.

So all-in-all, I don't care much for the Miss America pageants. They're as much a part of America as "America's Funniest Home Videos" is.
... which was softcore Youtube for us... at least it was entertaining at times.

I don't give two hoots about the pageants either... but will watch 'em just to see if I was lucky enough to catch a spoof like the one here:
YouTube - Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina answers a question

Oh man, that video is hilarious... even though its was from a miss "teen" USA.. still... thats just funny.

And yeah, I suppose the perfect American girl is supposed to be all sunshine and flowers... and equipped with Apple pie making skills.

My opinion is that we need an Otaku Queen of America. And I nominate you Zev.
