Comcast

Got a question for anyone that is using cable internet connection from Comcast. Recently a sales rep came to me with a great deal for internet connection, since I am a student or something. Great deal, but I have a concern. I have heard people say that Comcast is keeping their customers from using P2P programs like BitTorrent and such.

Does anyone know about that??

Be great to get some advice before I think about whether to switch or not.

It's not only that Comcast has a habit of saying you never paid them. That is one reason I quit using them. I wouldn't recommend them but if you choose to go with them be careful! Keep all the payment stubs.

Simple way around this is to use bittorrent clients that support packet compression, that might help, works with my ISP (They don't prevent me from using p2p, but they do put Upload and Download caps, and this bypasses it)

Well thats what I meant, sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant they put caps on upload and download...but yeah I'll keep what you say in mind. Let's avoid saying anything that could get us into legal trouble

What legal trouble are you talking about, Bittorrent is a legitiment peer to peer file transfer protocol. I only use it to download Linux ISOs...

That's true, I only use it to share class notes with classmates. But you know people tend to think that P2P are for illegal purposes.

You might wanna watch out now and days with P2P torrent programs they are cracking down on US downloaders and shutting their internet off ;/

This makes it a really hard decision to switch over. On one hand we are paying exactly the same thing right now for DSL 24.99, and Comcast is giving me the same price promotion. But if they are going to cap my p2p's I won't be able to get my "class notes"

But this is not an issue that is only limited to Comcast right Len?? IN the article it listed companies like Verizon too.
