Thread: Computer Busted

The screen is busted on your old laptop and you wanna transfer the data to the new laptop right..?

If the screen is jacked then you can't see what to copy so the only other option is to take the hard drive out put it on another laptop then burn it on disc and transfer it that way.

If thats possible ;/

or u could the lap top thing to a destop screen with a device i forgo the name for it but mines twister if you go to bestbuy or compusa they show you one if you tell them whats going on

Don't bother swapping drives and burning DVD media. That is a risky repair on most laptops that don't have hard drive swap bays, and it would take several DVDs to make s drive image.

Just fork over $19 bucks + shipping for a SATA/ATA/IDE to USB 2 converter. Take the drive out of the old computer and plug it into your new computer's USB slot with this connector. I've used them before, and while the speeds aren't incredibly fast even with USB 2.0, they do work well.

Know1 she can't see her screen... so how does she put the files on the USB stick lol... as for halo's idea that could work you just need a monitor that can be used on a laptop ;/

Well so do I hook the USB cord into the back of the tower of a computer and use it like that to download?

Its a portable 2-8 gig memory stick, you put it in your USB slot then move files that you want onto it ( My Computer then what ever the USB is named should be next to your disc drive Ex: E:/ )

Not sure where you saw 2-8 gig memory stick--that is not what that is. It is an adapter that allows you to plug in an internal hard drive to a computer without making any internal connections. It runs off USB 2.0.

I thought I was being very explicit in my previous instructions. You take the hard drive out of the broken computer (hence not needing it's screen), plug the hard drive into one end of this adapter (it accepts all major hard drive connections), then plug the other end into the USB port of your new laptop.
