Question Directorys and files lists into .txt

I want to be able to make directory and file list into a .txt.

I have read this thread = files into text?

    But when I use this command = dir d: > dlist.txt

it only make a list of files that are directly in d:/.
I also want it to make a list of all the folders, subfolders and all of these folders contents.
In short I want to make a list of everything into a .txt.

Could anyone please help me with this?

    This may help you

Generate a File Listing from a Windows Explorer Context Menu

Now, you need to be very careful what directory you generate a Text file for, some directories can have tens of thousands of files, and generating a full list for one of those folders will pretty much bring your computer to a screeching unresponsive halt.

Notepad.exe also has a limit to how large a text file it can open, so be careful how large a file you make.

    aceman67, the command dir /a /b /-p /o:gen >filelisting.txt only list folders and
files directly in d:\. It didn't list the folders subfolders and files etc.

Thats cause windows doesn't do that

Welcome to the wonderful world of Micro$haft.

And really, think about what you're trying to do. If I were to do what you want on my D Drive, I would get a text file that would list all 21,789 files in 2,148 folders that would have full file names and file sizes. The text file for that would be in the 100 to 200mb range.

Re: Directorys and files lists into .txt

a friend just sent me a message that he found a command that does what I want it to do,
and he was right, it does seem to do what I want it to do =

    dir /s > filename.txt

btw, the part of making a .bat and add it to the context menu was really useful.
