X copy is an old DOS command that allows you to copy files from drive 1 to drive 2...that way you could copy the files you needed before reformatting the drive...the link I gave explains how to do it.

soo am i supposed to do this:

"To copy all the files and subdirectories (including any empty subdirectories) from drive A to drive B, type:

    xcopy a: b: /s /e "

i want to transfer a certain folder to my D drive so i did this in the command prompt; xcopy z: d: /s /e
but it gave me a "invalid drive specification 0 file(s) copied" error.
