    mp4 codec problems

I recently obtained a file off the net that is in mp4 format. I have divx, xvid, and 3ivx codecs installed upon my compy.

This darn file wont play no matter what kind of codec I find... I got the audio to work alright by downloading the 3ivx thing, but the video is still a no-go.

I mainly use winamp, but I also tried windows media player 11 and quicktime.

I'd recommend uninstalling the codecs and just installing the ffdshow pack if you aren't using it already, which will provide support for AVI, OGM, MP4, and MKV. It has proven to be very useful for me for a long time now and haven't ever had to install any other codecs as far as video is concerned.

    Re: mp4 codec problems

I killed my mp4 codecs and installed the ff, but it still didn't work. I think there is something funky with the file. It may have been encoded wrong in the first place.

I'm using bittcommet to download this file. When it is downloading it has an extension of .mp4
When its done downloading and it turns into a regular file, it has no extension.
I don't know whats wrong, and it angers me.

I downloaded VLC player for windows. It did work.

It also played the dreaded ogm file that I had.
