Thread: My PC (first build and not finished Any Suggestions?)

I got my Q6600 up to 3.6 on air. My temps never got higher than the mid 50's under load. That could be because of my massive heat sink, but also because the G0 stepping Q6600 is a great overclocker. Still though, it wasn't as stable as I would have liked with that high a FSB.

In any case, why so much ram? Do you ever even touch anything above 4 gigs? Also, I just want to put out there that I personally haven't seen that much real-world performance gains between the raptorX and a standard 7200 raid 0. A few small areas are improved (booting to be one for sure), but not really enough to justify the typical price difference.

I agree with know1 about the raptor drives. They're all nice and fancy but the slight performance increase is generally not worth the price in my experience.

I also don't like wireless mice for games but that's more my preference and I don't even know you'll use it for games. (Though a rig like that certainly begs for it.)

The additional RAM can make a difference, (as Microsoft Vista can use it for additional file/disk caching...) But any ram over 3.2GB is only usable with the 64bit version of Vista... (which still has known problems finding 64bit drivers and media codecs for....)

Ummm.... *cough* Combined Community Codec Pack *cough*

Its all you need, and It works in the 64 bit version flawlessly (I've used it)

Me personally, I'd wait till the nVidia GeForce 9900 comes out, it'll have better support for DirectX 10.1.

hey amazing high-end rig you have there, i noticed some things tho.

Why are you running a single 8800gt as vidcard? you have a sli mobo and considering the amount of cash you put into it why arent you running two cards? or perhaps yer waiting for the 9-series?

I dont understand why people want to overclock theyre brand new system, if its temporarily to simply try out what it can do ok, but if stock speed can still run everything app/game at great settings why bother? ill admit you certainly have nice low temps tho.

If it seems to work fine ok, but personally i dont have great experiences with onboard realtek chips etc, the channels tend to sync quite badly and theres also issues with a variety of vista setups.

and last but not least =P yes i to think raptors are a waste of money, a good raid chip can easily outperform the difference in raid 0 with 2 standard 7200 rpm's.

Other then that enjoy yer new rig =D

It works in the 64bit verseion flawlessly, but the caveat is that it works flawlessly ONLY IN 32BIT APPLICATIONS. As an example, Windows Media Player is a 32 bit application (in both the 32 & 64 bit versions of Vista Home Premium), however, the in the 64 bit Vista, Windows Media Center (with the integrated TV /Movie Player) is 64 bit, and refuses to use the ffdshow codec... (I've learned this the hard way...)
