Yeah unfortunately I dont know a way either, maybe like violet said, some kind of program. Or you can just hide your folders if you dont want it to be seen.
'Cause you give me something / That makes me scared, alright / This could be nothing / But I'm willing to give it a try / Please give me something
'Cause someday I might call you from my heart
no no noooooooo NO..........NO yah that works but what a waste of time and space if its that important like ur trying to hide porn or something(I don't think theres a different reason......) then yah go ahead......but there easier ways
alright if its in the shared folder of course move it out then put a password on it but for a regular file a list will help the most
1.make sure your the system administrator
2.find the file you want to make private....
3.leftclick go to properties
4.on the upper bars it say s general, sharing and customize,GO TO SHARING
5.and in the upper section theres a little check box that says "make this folder and sub folders in it private...
CLICK it....that should work
now if it doesn't there should be another way
but if theres another system admin. that person can always delete the password even if he doesn't know it.....(from expierience)so if that doesn't work let me know theres always a dif. way with these things![]()

As far as Windows XP is concerned, only XP Pro has the ability to put a password on a file/directory. XP Home does not... If you have XP Pro, call up the 'Help' menu and do a search for 'Encryption' for instructions how to do this... (Through granted, it's not commercial strength encryption, but that's Microsoft for you...)
You can add a password to .ZIP folders. If you want, create a zip folder just as you would with any other folder (you can right-click and select 'new', then zip folder).
Drag items into the folder that you want proteted. Once they are all there, select File/Add a password. Once that is set, if someone opens the zip folder and selects an icon, they are prompted with the password box.
The upside is that zip folders will not allow for thumbnails of the items unless they are unzipped, meaning that image files and movie icons will remain as generic system icons until each one is password entered. The down sides (and there are a few) are that items placed in this folder after initial password setting are not password protected, only the items that were in there already have the protection. Also, file names and extensions are still visible. Finally, if you have downloaded a higher-end compression tool, this method (which is built into all winXP versions) may not work as described.
