it happens alot to older versions of ps2 the earlier ones had bad lasers and would stop being able to read black ps1 discs and blue ps2 discs ( the blue ones are still cd's ) it might not happen to all cd's butit wont read the majority of it or only after 10 tries or something
there isnt really a problem to fix it unless you want to screw it apart buy a new laser component and replace it , but that would be alot of trouble if you dont know what you're doing
i myself had the same problem my 1st generation ps2 already had that after it was only 9 months old , lucky i still had warranty and got it replaced
but however that one kicked the bucket also after a year and a half
bought a new one after that and it still works fine to this day
so you can either say screw it or buy a new ps2/ps3 =/
unless you think you can put the laser module in there yourself
