This is a rumor and is incorrect, the same was the case with XP, prior to it's release people claimed it would notify the RIAA if you downloaded illegally.Originally Posted by Creesco
And it doesn't.
I'm currently beta testing Vista, it's actually a nice OS, and I can see some features which were definitly inspired by Linux (for those of you who don't know, this is a good thing) While, of course the OS is not finalized yet, it is at least at this point....a nice and great looking OS. Click the following link to see a screenshot of my desktop in Vista:

You can disable the sidebar to the right, as well as have it display dozens of other things besides the date/time/cpu/mypictures slideshow which I have mine display.
But as interesting as Vista is, it's merely a stepping stone for Microsoft on their way to making Windows Vienna/Fiji which is supposed to do away with the start menu and taskbar and bring an entirely new and supposedly "revolutionary" GUI.
In all honesty, by now I can safely say all the faith I lost in microsoft when they made ME has been just about restored with XP (Professional) and the implimentation of Vista.
And yes, you should wait a few months before picking it up, just as you would with any other OS or peice of hardware. When Sony released the PS2, early versions had problems, same with the 360 on Microsoft's behalf. But upgrading down the road isn't and shouldn't be an option. I don't want to have to deal with new programs being bogged down so they will still work on XP because there are still a handful of people unwilling to upgrade.
Vista will not be another ME, hence if you have not upgraded within 18 months of it's release you and your computer are obselete relics which merely waste bandwidth and provide a breeding ground for viruses.
Oh and here is a much better link to find out if you can handle Vista home, and which other versions you can handle: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...r/default.mspx

Barbecued, bake, fryed, every sort of sauce as well as bread of dog.......No mater what it always tastes like chicken. Any ideas oh how to change this?
I to am currently beta testing Vista and i am enjoying it to a point, not haveing any of my fav programs from xp sucks a little and for some reason OpenGl or D3D will not work wirth the latest cat pack for my x1600pro. But as for you question Joshua001, MS did releaes some beta keys for people to test vista on there computers but all the keys are taken, if you got one then all you need to do is install it and use it and send error reports back to MS so when they launch vista it wount has as manny bugs. If you allready have xp installed you can install Vista to a 2ed drive or patrion that has a primary partion. I moved all my anime and images of my 250gig hdd and reformated it as a 30gig and 200gig partion so i could install vista on the 30 and still have room for my anime and images.
I was going to get vista but i only have 512 megs of ram.I could run it if i wanted but it would be pretty unusable.I know a freiend who was using the Beta but hardly anything ran...even MSN didnt work for him and thats microsoft:\
I downloaded a theme which makes XP look like vista and thats good enough. And the sidebar is inspired by Mac not linux and can be downloaded for XP aswell
