There are very few reruns in Japan: so if you miss an episode, you're screwed. Most of the anime that does air during the day or primetime is aimed at children or elem-junior high students. I actually find it MORE difficult to follow anime in Japan than I ever did in the US. It's expensive, it's inconvenient, and it's embarassing...
I guess I should stop complaining about paying $25-$30 per new DVD here in the States...

I didn't realize there was such a stigma attached to anime in Japan. Like everyone else, I figured it was just the norm.

Those are what sell here. The dedicated DVD buying audience are in the 40s, living in their parent's basement and have never had a girl or boyfriend. No one else can afford to buy 13 $60 DVDs each with one episode of "Tokimeki Breath of Happiness" and an underage upskirt figure attatched.

There's a misconception that all anime is on free network tv during reasonable hours and that Japanese people can flick on the tv any time and catch the latest episode of whatever they want. Most Japanese people don't follow anime. It's not practical, or a particularly socially acceptable thing for working adults with lives to do.
$800+ a year for satilite now that freaking expensive and $20 for the movies i would just buy the comics(I forgot what there called)
