Alright... so I'm going to be a bit delicate as the topic is of a slightly more adult nature: but I have to express my continuing amazement at just how kinky Japanese people are for the level of public prudishness they tend to be famous for!

I'm dating a Japanese boy and we've been together for about 3 months. I'm also the owner of a maid outfit (an old work uniform from when I used to part-time at a cafe a few years back). Discovery of said maid outfit in my closet has him flipping out. Now, an American guy might say "nice halloween costume", but to a Japanese man... apparently this is like opening the closet and finding three naked women inside.

Tonight he had a few drinks and he's been texting me for over an hour "making plans" for this maid outfit. He's even bringing a suit the next time he comes over so we can "cosplay together" O_o; He's got me calling him "goshujinsama" (master) in emails and is suddenly eclaiming his love for me every 12 seconds >_<

And he's NOT a geek in the least. He's just a normal guy.

No wonder maid cafes get so much business if this is the sort of response a costume can elicit O_o;

Do non-Japanese people get this excited about costumes? Should I invest in a nurse outfit in my bid for an engagement ring? O_o;

ps. that "Lost in Translation" thing was apparently based a bit in reality... he also mentioned something about "ripping my stockings"!!

Yea it can be quite an interesting thing to do for someone. It can also be extreamly fun as well. But sometimes it can be quite an expensive thing to get into. Atleast here in the us sometimes. But if you can make them yourself it's great!

I don't think the magical girl would do anything for him... he's not into anime or manga at all (he actually seems to think it's sort of lame... which is why the whole maid-moe thing has me a little thrown-for-a-loop... were he a nerd, I'd have expected it)

Thats like adding nukes to a fireworks show, i personally dont have a huge fetish on maids, but stocking on the other hand,(er..leg...*punches self*) is totally hot., for all guys(not exclusive to any race i reckon)

Cosplay fetish isnt limited to just the Japanese (although honestly I think that a majority of people that do have them ARE Japanese. LOL) its more of an personal preference/taste in the matter.

I agree with Hassun for once *gets struck by lightning twice* It isn't as weird as you might think. Infact, though we don't talk about it openly in public... Guys tend to adore maids. Nurses seem especially popular as of late but, I can't actually see a guy 'dressing up' for such 'plans' as well. Hmm.. Irony.. In anycase, Another favorite is the cat girl them or Neko. *thumbs up to you for having the maid costume* I myself would have about the same reaction if I found a maid uniform in my girl friends closet. Infact, I'd probably tackle-hug her xD. And I'm american.

I also seem to have a thing for school-girl uniforms.. come to think of it, we're getting a japanese foreign exchange student this year
