Question Do You Consider Japanese Geta a Casual Wear?

Well do you consider Japanese Geta as an actual Casual Wear?

I am asking this question, since i been in curiousity for an answer so now i am asking all of the members to please respond this simple question. Oh and also why you chose your answer is the right fact.

The Japanese Geta i always seen, was that i was not really sure if it were to be a casual wear or some other type of wear for occasions. And there has been several mix ups with traditional and non- traditional styles of wearing Geta's around places.

Re: Do You Consider Japanese Geta a Casual Wear?

uh... geta (specifically the sandals with raised wooden slats) haven't been widely used since the Meiji restoration. Their current use is pretty much confined to festivals and cosplay.

That would pretty much rule out the "casual" label.

It surprised me that you'd ask this question O_o; I don't know... it just... dunno...

Did you think people still wore those things to work?

Which one do you mean by; geta and not zōri? I know which is the geta, though i do not quite understand the zōri. Can you try to explain to me about this more specifically? To find mnore of the meaning your asking in.

Geta are the clogs, usually made of wood. Geta (footwear) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zōri are like sandals, softer and worn A LOT more often than geta in today's Japan. Zōri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh, well then the one i was referring at first was the geta since at first i was not sure where the original name has came from. In the meantime the only question i have right now is the one i haved posted earlier before. And the answer you have given did made more sense to me in a better vision.

Hmmmm, isnt this question more on a personal level of taste and/or preference? I mean the environment/surroundings of the individual might play a role in the matter but it'd still be up to the individual's taste/preference no? Cuz if I still had my geta I'd be wearing it right now and going places like normal. LOLs

Than again it just might be me out of all the people. LOLs, I'm the type that doesnt really care for such matters.

Re: Do You Consider Japanese Geta a Casual Wear?

It is worth noting that Shinku is incredibly strange

I have seen about 14 pairs of geta all year on the street (discounting the week of summer festivals, farmer's kabuki, and my trip to Kyoto's geisha district with my parents). One worn by an old man on a pilgrimage and the rest on women in kimono.

I have seen 500,000,000 pairs of high heels.

You do the math.

No... people don't wear geta casually.

Japan is a completely modernized nation obsessed with high-end footwear that is uncomfortable, expensive and likely to break your ankles.

Generally speaking: kimono is worn for special occaisions only... and geta are only worn with kimono (aside from a random oldster who doesn't particularly care that he looks "old-fashioned").
