Donald or Ronald McDonald

Just a bit of interesting trivia for you all.

In Japan, it's Donald McDonald, yet in western countries it's Ronald McDonald. So why is it different in Japan? Well, the reason is because the Japanese find it very hard to pronounce Ronald, hence they have named the guy Donald.

In different countries they can have different names for places. I think most of the places have different names because they want to be different sometimes.

Correct me if I am wrong, columbus, but don't the Japanese pronounce the L as an R? Or was it the other way around? But yea, I know when I watch anime, I notice how awkward they pronounce names that start with L or R. And it's probably even worse if it's an American name as weird as Ronald. I can imagine they have a problem just saying the onald part. lol

There is no L in the Japanese alphabet, so yeh, they pronounce it as R.

Very interesting fact, thanks for sharing. In my country we call him Ronal Macdonal without the d at the end, pretty kool huh!

Errrr, as far as I know, they still call him Ronald McDonald, except that the "R" doesn't sound like the usual "R" (due to the different way the Japanese pronounce it).

McDonald's in Japan is called "MAKKU" (Mc) for short, though.

That werid but y know kind of not cool but the jap. languags is very diffrent so it really makes sense

well i agree cuz i herd that KFC is like something else there and maybe they like the style of culture there, but dont wanna be persecuted for having the exact same idea

Possible.

But it's probably more closely related to a country's culture and language, and how the shortened version of the name fits/sounds. In Japan, KFC is known as Kenta - which makes it a lot easier to write in katakana since there are only 2 syllables.
