In Japan are there things in english as well as japanese like on menus and what not?
My dad's sensei told him they don't speak english* well and what not.

Yeah they don't speak Japanese well.

No really, it's true. The Japanese suck at every language except Japanese.
Most restaurants have plastic replica's of the food though. You won't go hungry.

English is an international languages so a lot ppl know should know some English!

lol in the business world english is freaking essential because most of the HQs of many big businesses are in USA.

You don't really need to know Japanese that well if you are in a major city. When I went to Japan, I decided I would ask people if the spoke English, and if they didn't then I would just talk to them in Japanese. However, that plan did not working, seeing as if the person didn't no English they'd say "Wait!" and run off to go find someone who did ^^;;
