    Re: Free Weekly Japanese Lessons

Hey guys. Sorry the thread has been sort of inactive for a while, but I am willing to help anyone out if anyone still needs help with Japanese

Feel free to reply to the thread with questions, or PM me! If you have a whole bunch of questions try to put them together in one message/reply as opposed to multi-posting, it'll make things a lot easier

The lesson series will be from a total beginner's point of view, but that doesn't mean only beginners can participate. Anyone wanting to review points they've already learned can join in any time they like.

The beginner's course will move slowly and concentrate on "overlearning" fundimentals so that they'll not be forgotten later on in the game.

Completing the course will give you knowledge of the following:

    -hiragana
    -katakana
    -50 kanji
    -500+ basic vocabulary words
    -basic grammar patterns
-the ability to read children's books written in hiragana
-the ability to enter a university-level Japanese 102 course (ie. skip 101)

The course will take anywhere from 6 months - a year to complete... depending completely on what it's students can handle.

+ If you want to join you will need +

    -a notebook
    -a pencil
    -a red pen
-a file or folder (in which to keep print-outs)
-a printer (with which to make print-outs)
-AOL instant messenger or Trillian (with an AOL username enabled)
-20 minutes a day set aside to study Japanese
-Japanese character support for your browser/OS
(Using Japanese Text Input on a Microsoft Windows PC
Add Chinese and Japanese Characters to Firefox)

If you would like to join the course "officially", please post a note here.

Any folks who already know basic Japanese (and can demonstrate appropriate knowledge) are welcome to join as "tutors". We're going to be setting up an AIM list to help each other out.
