For me, I prefer to use Hiragana.... Because katakana is more complicated than Hiragana thats why.......

    Grumble Grumble Grumble

But proper usage is not a matter of preference... Strictly speaking, their both phonetic alphabets, but one is reserved for domestic (Japanese) worlds, while the other is for foreign (non-Japanese) words....

    Re: Hiragana or Katakana

I would prefer to write in just one mainly hiragana, however as Len pointed out, they are both in the Japanese alphabet so its kinda impossible to just stick to one.
Most of the time, i'll be trying to write something in katakana however seconds later descover its all in hiragana. lol, silly mistake there. Habit.

    Re: Hiragana or Katakana

I prefer Hiragana as well. They said that hiragana is easier for european speaking people anyway. (Languages such as English, German, Spanish, etc.)

So far, I can actualy read most Hiragana.

    Re: Hiragana or Katakana

Because I use hiragana more often, I usually forget most katakana ^^; However, I still use both, because I don't want to get in the habit or using hiragana for foreign words because I'm not supposed to >_<

    Re: Hiragana or Katakana

This isn't a valid question because you do not have the liberty to choose.
    LenMiyata explained why already.

However it's true that katakana is sometimes used in manga in an inappropriate way to make them stand out more.
