I agree, we still have not made swords much better than samurai swords. a thousand years and they have not been improved.

I forget what show it was (I'm sure there have been plenty), but it compared ancient japanese weapons to weapons that we commonly use today. (Melee of course) Theirs sliced clean through while ours barely scratched the surface. It's kind of sad really. :(

japan is way a heard of the usa, i mean come on half the stuff the us buys is from japan.

But that's because there's no money to be made in traditional melee weapons. Now armor, the modern ceramic/kevlar body armor of today is much better at stopping knives, bows, slugs, (and bullets) then what they had back then. They could make swords much better with modern metallurgy technology, but since no one is willing to pay the price for it, what's the point...

They still come with many ingenious innovations with living things though... Robotics... engineering... I would say Japan is Asia's centre for technology.. not sure about Information Technology though... Information is the war for this age... ^^

I watched a documentary and Katana did won the best category for weapons o.O It could slice, cut, and stab... other weapons are a bit different... katana's are pretty simple for a design... and I also believe that the Japanese people hold dearly to the old traditions and such...
