    Re: Japanese language learning.

I've been renting vocabulary books and other things on speaking japanese from the library but I haven't learned many words yet. Right now I'm teaching myself Japanese slang terms

I take japanese at school. In katy, texas where i live mrs.maekawa teaches us japanese afterschool mondays and wenesdays. I already know alot. I learned hirigana, hi(ru)gana, kangi, katakana, and romagi. It's alot of nice and friendly asians in the class that i often talk to in japanese. I'm probably the only black student in their to be exact, but it's really cool.

    Re: Japanese language learning.

It's great to see new forumers showing interest in the thread!

And it's great that you get to learn Japanese in school. I didn't; I had to rely on dramas and books and stuff... and distant Japanese relatives who I hardly met anyway. The forms of writing are hiragana + katakana (which make up furigana) and kanji. Gotta be careful with how you spell them

Here's what your introduction should actually look like in romaji:

Watashi no namae wa Brandon desu. (My name is Brandon)
Texas no Katy ni sundeimasu. (I like in Katy of Texas)
Bideo geemu zasshi ga suki desu. (I like video game mags)
Juuyon sai desu. (I am 14-years old)

Sentences ending in "ka" are all questions. So saying something like "Texas ni sundeimasu ka" would be literally asking someone else if they live in Texas, instead of telling them you live in Texas.

    Re: Japanese language learning.

I do need to learn Japanese seeing as how I'm going to be drug there soon. Japan is a lovely place but do you really have to know Japanese? Can you get by with a little of the language? I wish that they had Japanes when I was in high school. That would have been the best subject for me to take.

    Re: Japanese language learning.

Ky-lyrra: It depends... in what context? If you're just a tourist you just have to know a couple of basic stuff regarding directions and ordering meals... it's not as though all Japanese people are English-illiterate. Sign language works too

souichiro_arima: Yoroshiku~! Gakusei ne... nannensei? I don't know what happened to the other Japanese-literate forumers who used to post here... it seems like I'm the only one now. +__+ I guess I can help you, though I have no idea HOW to teach. ^^;; I learned by conversing in VERY broken Japanese and working my way up from there... I usually tell people to do the same thing.

kaxing: You say, "watashi no namae wa (name here) desu." Or, to be more brief, just say "(name) desu." ^_^
