    Re: Japanese nicknames?

Hiro, Tomo, Kei, Kuu, and the list goes on and on. Really, there are no typical Japanese nicknames as we are accustomed to in the west. Usually the Japanese would just shorten their current name. Eg: Tomoko would be Tomo. But even then, the Japanese don't really use nicknames all that much.

    Grumble Grumble Grumble

You have to be careful with the meaning of those nicknames... As an example, 'Ichigo' means 'strawberry'... Do you really want to be nicknamed 'strawberry'!!!

    What the?

If you had an existing Japanese name that wouldn't be so difficult, but you don't just come up with a "nickname" out of the blue. What kind of nickname do you mean anyway? Screen name? One that's derived from a real name? >__>

There are some weird people out there, Len. I know a few people who'd love to be named 'strawberry'. Tsukiko is a real pretty one. But it means 'moon child'. I'd like to be named Tsukiko. I love the moon.

    Re: Japanese nicknames?

In Bleach, Ichigo explains why he's called Ichigo, and it's definitely not because his father wanted his son to have the Japanese equivalent of "strawberry" for a name. Then again, unless you know your way around the language and how it works for names you're bound to think "strawberry", at first glance.
