I was so shocked when I heard that. Is it true?

I've also heard that students will even try that with teachers, and that teachers won't try and help another teacher out if they are being picked on. I've also heard bullying is REALLY bad over in Japan and again, no one tries to stop the bully from bullying.
It's called Kancho and evidently English teachers from other countries run into it alot. The male ones anyway. Editorial from an English teacher. Mind you his students were 7-9th graders. Maybe it's not as common in high school.

Edit: You know, I'm pretty sure Kancho isn't what *~Cookies&Cream~* wanted to talk about.

White Day and Valentine's Day are not holidays in Japan. But yes, like in any other country, people do give choccies and other stuff to people. It's very common for Japanese girls to confess their feelings towards guys on Valentine's Day after giving them prezzies.

Re: Learning about the Japanese Culture itself..

Hahah, shouldn't it be the other way round? You learn about the Japanese lifestyle by reading manga. I don't get what you mean by "what do the Japanese practice on"... practice what?

A suggestion for you : why don't you pick out several situations in the manga that you have read that you may not understand and post them here? Then I can help you figure out what's going on.

Re: Learning about the Japanese Culture itself..

Well, if that's the case it's gonna be a bit difficult for us to relate to you everything that goes on in the life of a typical Japanese person. Plus, I'm not Japanese - and I may have been an exchange student for half a year but I don't think I really lived the life of a Japanese student.

Some things you CAN do, as an alternative:

1) Travel to Japan and stay there for a year
2) Correspond with a Japanese friend or e-pal (go to JapanGuide to find one)
3) Read lots and lots of manga - the non-fantasy ones, at least, to get a realistic view of the Japanese lifestyle

Or you could tell us what, in particular, you would like to know. Where lifestyles are concerned, I wouldn't know where to start.
