Ummmm... as in, do those tests culminate along with tests from other courses in your final GPA? Or are they just an add-on to your report card, without any real significance (apart from you being able to learn a new language, yadda yadda)?
Yeah, it goes into my GPA. In fact, you're required to take a language where I go to school. Which is one of the reasons I find it so puzzling that they aren't putting more effort into it. It's not like the requirement is even in the electives section for requirements!

I learnt English the hard way. I used to have 4 or five books for it.
Comprehenshion.
Vocabulary
Normal reading book.
Verbs/nouns/grammar.
Every day of the week! Not to mention the hard tests and questions ^_^ But hey, it helped me a lot.
As for Japanese I learnt only few phrases.
