    Re: Marriage life in Japan

These days many career women still quit working when it's baby time. It hasn't changed that much.

Twenty, thirty years ago or so, things started to change a bit, yes, but not entirely. All the old folks still like the idea of arrangement marriages. The old custom of sending in arranged marriage proposal photos [Omiai syashin] enveloped in a delicate wrapping cloth [huroshiki] with all the business background information seemed like an ideal way for the older generation families to maintain their family tree, including their status ~! ^^ Japanese parents, especially fathers, are very critical on matters such as status and money. Daughters didn't used to have much "say", but times are a little different now, for the best, I suppose. Hahah, there are even many delightful Japanese theatre dramas that revolve around love-suicides tales, some of which are real. People have actually died.

~!! Yeah, in most Asian countries it is/was a practice common like in Korea and India. Arranged marriages were fairly common in ancient Roman societies as well. I don't how things are else where now, but considerably more freedom exists now.

is it true that the wife has to bow when saying hi to her husband or his friends when they get home?
If it is, what is the reason for it? respect or some tradition?

She doesn't have to. But it is polite to greet each other. Bowing to your own family isn't done much anymore.

Attitude of AO MODS, according to beast
Because they have obtained that level they are arrogant. You have to kep in mind when you talk about these guys they are kind of dorks who probably didn't excel at much and this is their only outlet to flex their muscles. Their egos would suffer no less so the the forum suffers some more. Watch one way or another they will probably repond to this post with a threat. But there are better forums out there. Private messege Zev.

They still do bow occasionally, but uh, these days the old bow has been reduced to a nod of the head. Or maybe a sliiiiight downward tilt of the body... a half-bow?
