That thing with the eye I keep seeing, what's up with that?

Basically, I been watching Anime for ages & I've noticed more than I care to count have something in common that most wouldn't guess. In so many of them, someone (usually some kid/s) pull down the bottom part of the skin around their eye, stick out their tongue & normally give a cheeky grin. I've seen it in so many Anime, I thought it was about time I asked;

what the heck does it mean?

I'm guessing it's the visual equivalent of going "ha ha", but that's not good enough for my overactive brain. It wants to know what it means, not just a guess.

So, can anyone help?

The same thing as the "a five fingered salute" or sticking your tongue out at someone... childish defiance or taunting.

yea the same as he said i see it every time i just about watch an anime there doing that tautin u and it makes me go like......WTF agin and agin it gets stuck in my head but its just there to tease u im guessing 0.0

Haha, I remember back around like 6 or 5 years ago American kids did that, I always though it was either the Japanese stole it from us or we stole it from them and it just looked funny.

Don't forget the "Buuuuuu" sound when you make the gesture though, it's essential!

It's funny, because in my earlier days, I used to always think that it meant giving someone a big f*** you, LOL. So, basically it means the same in JP as sticking your toungue out to someone in US? Or is it like the halfway point between the raspberry and the middle finger?
