What's up with Japan and Rape?
If you somehow haven't noticed Japanese people seem to have a thing for rape. They put rape into every media they have even old paintings, cartoons aimed at children, and even soap operas. This would never be on American television. YouTube - Chiaki Kuriyama R-17 I was watching a martial arts film called body guard kiba and they had a ridiculously long rape scene. I was like , "WTF is this really necessary for a martial arts
movie?"

You are misinformed.
There are nonconsentual scenes in American films as well and a popular fetish type involving faux nonconsentual pornography alive and well in the Western world. American fangirls seem obsessed with rape-comfort/hurt-comfort fanfic (raping everyone from Harry Potter to Captain Kirk)...
I just read an arc of "THE AUTHORITY" in which a villain viciously rapes one of the heroes and gets his comuppance through a gigantic drill to the back-door in return.
"The Kite Runner"'s young stars had to be given politial asylum from Afganistan because an American film chose to show the two young boys being gang-raped on screen, thus making them fair game for anti-homosexuality laws that would have them executed.
So what?
Are we supposed to pretend rape doesn't exist?
There is no rape in cartoons or books aimed at children. The very idea that there is is an idiotic ethnocentric rumor started to imply that the Japanese are all morally and sexually twisted (ironically, the same rumor holds that all anime and manga is pornographic and aimed at kids). There is rape in soap operas and mainstream anime for adults only in a suggested form to create a dramatic situation based on a real-world issue.
There is rape pornography... but there is just as much in the Western world (if not more).
The Japanese certainly have issues with reluctance as a fetish type and there are some disturbing trends in the sort of bedroom fetishes and conversations they seem to favor: but these can be just as easily tied to modern gender dynamics and men feeling feminized in a demanding workplace as they can a passion for violating women.
In the future, don't think Encyclopedia Dramatica is a viable resource for anything.

You might as well ask why does Hollywood produce so many R rated Movies compared to the handful of G rated family movies that they make? Does Hollywood really having something for so much sex and violence? It's time to grow up! Popular media is popular media. Japan is no different then any other mass media market
Re: What's up with Japan and Rape?
Never show on American television? That's where you're wrong! PlayBoyTV, and all those other channels I dare not mention... And yes, those channels do have rape porn! And it's not just porn channels, either. Haven't heard of the American drama, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? Nah, you're not alone. It was only yesterday I discovered such a show existed while surfing channels yesterday. One of the episodes, thankfully entirely fictional, involved a 10-year-old Jewish boy being raped. And there are also all those supposedly funny cartoons aimed at adults that have fun with the rape plot device... You know, there's alot of sex in American television nowadays. Compared to Lucy's days and those Twilight nights...
Uh, children's cartoons? What children's cartoons are you talking about, anyway? And if you're going for Death Note (it had one harassment scene), I wouldn't exactly call that a children's cartoon...

Yea thats true. Then in america theres also shows based on rape(Law&Order SVU for example)This show is based on rapist, there crimes, and things that they do.Then theres shows like C.S.I. which isn't based on rape but sometimes has rape cases.Pretty much any law drama has these types of cases.Altho there not based on true stories if you watch the news the rape crimes on there and the rape crimes in some law dramas are somewhat alike.SO it not just japan America's like that 2.
Re: What's up with Japan and Rape?
Abby and little negi you both fail hard CSI is one of the few shows depicting alot of sex crimes. Abby you doubly fail hard for comparing a pornographic channel to regular tv stations.

We have rape in our media too but I swear Japanese have more instances of rape than other people do.
This was created by a Japanese fangirl depicting Light from death note being raped by L.
Death Note: Bound Prince
Yes there is? Fushigi Yugi is aimed at little girls and there are many events dealing with rape. Great Teacher Onizuka aimed at boys deals with rape. GTO is aimed at high school boys so that could slide. Air gear is aimed at boys yet it has depictions of rape in it.
Even if they use rape to create dramatic situations they sure use it a lot.
I planned to only talk about the media depictions of rape but what is with them having separate trains for women. That's just ridiculous.
Encyclopedia Dramatica is a great resource for giant rape pictures.

Japan is different from other mass media markets that's why a site like this exist. Alot of people have pointed out that Japan has an abornmal amount of depictions of rape in their media.

How do you know that? Seems like an assumption to me.
And this was created by western fangirls: Hurt/Comfort Slash Fic
What the hell is your point? That fans in Japan use rape as a plot device in fanworks and western fans don't? 'Cause we do... often.

Fushigi Yuugi is aimed at 14-18 year old girls. The age of consent in Japan is 14. A majority of Fushigi Yuugi's audience is already sexually active. Your point?
What's more, the "rape" content is all implied and Fushigi Yuugi is liscenced in the US... meaning it's available here too: rape content intact with the exact same target audience.

No, it has discussion of rape. It doesn't have depictions of rape.

So do American soap operas:
When She Says No
soap opera: Definition and Much More from Answers.com
Western comic books: the aforementioned rape of Apollo in The Authority, rape as a plot device in V for Vendetta, etc.
Not to mention the constant media obsession with rapists/serial killers and child abductors that fills MSNBC, CNN and FOX news with constant biographies, documentaries and "Special Reports" about the abduction, torture and rape or real-life women and children. We've got classes in elementary school about avoiding child molestors and seminars in high school about date rape. All this creates the illusion that the moment we walk out the door we're likely to be raped and murdered.
Again... what's your point?

No it's not. It's smart. Considering the overcrowding on trains and that women need to ride them jam-packed with men (not all of whom are polite), it's actually quite intelligent. And it isn't the whole train, it's one car designated "women only". Women and men are free to use the other cars together.
Women aren't generally RAPED on trains... they aren't "anti-rape" cars. They're cars that women can ride unharassed and, when they get crowded, aren't likely to get groped by an opportunist. And besides, if Japan's so obsessed with rape: why not create trains for the specific purpose of "All you can rape" ~_~;
This conversation is ridiculous.
I can't believe I'm even bothering to have it.
