Why do japanese people live so long?
Not sure if anyone posted this thread before but i have question: last time i was doing geography and my teacher said Japanese has the highest life expectancy, so i was wondering why is it in a over populated country (Japan) the life expectancy is so high?
Re: Why do japanese people live so long?
If there were an easy, exact reason, we'd have stolen it long ago.
The most usual reasons given are:
Healthy diet
High educational level (very few uneducated people)
Exercise is greatly supported for all ages
Steady jobs
Good elderly care (usually living at home with their children)
Genetics
Re: Why do japanese people live so long?
I don't think it deals with genetics lol but ok, all others is right and they aren't very big on fast food and other junk foods us Americans like; their hamburgers are about 1/2 the size of ours ( not big meat eaters )
Re: Why do japanese people live so long?
well.. i did some research and all of you guys were right. Japanese people live so long is because they eat a lot of raw fish, and most of their food doesn't have a lot of oil in it. so that is the main reason why do Japanese people live so long.

Grumble Grumble Grumble
Studies have been done that show that when Japanese move to the US and adopt a US style diet, they start developing the same health problems, with shorten life spans as the the rest of the US population. So a low fat diet rich in seafood products has a contributing factor to long lifespan.
Another thing to consider is that there is a cultural difference between the US and Japan. In traditional Japanese culture, elders are respected and honored in society, while in the US their usually considered some old geezer who's obsolete and behind the times (grumble grumble grumble...)
