Animated Gifs prgm

I there, I don't know if this subject have already been talked, but is there someone who can tell me a good prgm to use in order to make animated gif like sign or anything else.

Free or shareware prgm are accepted.

If you wanna animate something like your sig you can always jump to adobe image ready. Go to window>workspace>animation to get started. Mess around with it and get some tutorials if you want. And Macramedia flash works too.
