Here's a Quote from the DeviantART FAQ #304

Someone has posted an image which looks just like mine, why won't you remove it?
    Policy Regarding Image Recreations
Here at deviantART we strive to be a community which welcomes artists of all ages and all levels of skill and talent from the young beginner to the mature professional.

We recognise that beginning or amateur artists often copy or recreate existing imagery as a natural part of the learning process. This does not mean that actual art theft is allowed - we do not allow an artist to simply add or remove details from a piece of work created by another artist, nor may they edit, recolor, crop or otherwise simply modify the actual work created by another artist. What we do allow at this point in time is for artists to reproduce works (or copy) through their own effort. It is considered proper etiquette to cite the original artist of the inspiring work and give them credit for being the inspiration of such reproductions, especially if numerous details have been copied or otherwise borrowed.

While we would agree that the simple reproduction of another artists work is not particularly original we have chosen to allow these recreations providing that the reproduction has been created completely through the efforts of the artist in question and does not directly contain any portions of the referance work.
Anime Fan Art falls under 'Image Recreations'

I think you missed the point, that was a QUOTE and the man was saying that he did not agree with it...Read concentrated next time...

And to answer the thread, check how all the paintings from a certain movement "look the same" as well. That would be my answer to someone saying something of the kind

Art is in the eye of the beholder. What is art to someone, is trash to another.

    Re: Anime isn't REAL art.

Examples of what is considered art:

    Andy Warhol:

    Jackson Pollock:

But for some reason they say that this:

    isn't.

You'll excuse me if I dissagree.

Of course anime is art. If someone can splatter a canvas and sell it as art or just find an old chair that has been thrown to the curb and call it art (yes, someone did it) then I can call anime or any recognizable painted image art.

I don't need to calm down. I'm not excited. It's just an arguement I'm very familiar with.

There is a snobbery in parts of the art community that claim that any type of illustration doesn't count as art. As a result utter crap can be called art if the artist claims to have "vision" but a beautiful graphic is considered unacceptable if it's ever printed in a magazine format.

    Example:

Of the two which would you say requires vision and creativity?
