for me, I have yet to see a group of atheist gathering to worship their "no God" or went out to spread the "word" to others about their "no God" so I would say that is cannot be labeled as a religion, more of belief
Is atheism a religion?
Looked objectively it seems to be these days.
It has a creation myth - Evolution.
It has multiple philosophies - for example: life sucks and then you die. Or if you like, eat drink and be merry for tommorow you die.
It has an 'afterlife' belief - either oblivion or 'rejoining the life force.'
It definitely has followers and zeolots.
What do you think ? Agree/Disagree and why.
But watch out for the kicker - if you agree it's a religion, then by current US laws it's illegal to 'preach' it in public schools and college.
P.S. As a matter of curiosity can anyone explain to me the difference between an intangible lifeforce and a Deity that's 'everywhere and nowhere?"

'Cause you give me something / That makes me scared, alright / This could be nothing / But I'm willing to give it a try / Please give me something
'Cause someday I might call you from my heart
Have you checked into the media or public schools lately? Granted, they don't put on robes stand on the corner, but it gets preached, believe me.Originally Posted by pyoro-pyoro
Okay this is "what I've heard" so yeah, atheism is going down, and more people are joining different religious groups...but I heard this from a Christian oriented tv program so you get my idea

Christians aren't the only ones I've heard it from.
Let me put it this way. For a long time (and I believe, still, in most places) it was not allowed in schools to talk about Creationism, but Darwinistic Evolution was a required part of the standard curiculum.
And you don't think it's getting preached?
Well...the school gotta teach something, if everything is challenged then we can't learn anything. A teacher can't even tell his/her students that stealing is wrong because it's one of the commandments...
it would be very nitpicking you know, like that guy who sued the school for making her daughter say the "Pledge of Allegiance"

No argument there, I'm just saying that it is getting preached, and to a captive audience at that, so saying there are no 'missionaries' is not a valid argument.
I threw in the part about religion/atheism in schools more to make people stop and think anyway.
Reality is not a religion. When things have been proven. there is no such thing of religion. Religion is something that is supernatural and un-real mostly to fear/brainwash us with words told by authors with great fantasy-based imagination from the past.
