BSPlayer was good until it went half-pricey. Nowadays Media Player Classic does the job for me with DirectVobSub. But it's been quite silent for a period of time now, so it's not 'hot off the decompiler'- player. If I have only guest priviledges on some system I use mplayer, which is pretty good with implemented codecs etc. For audio there's always Winamp (which is heavy as hell for video files) and other open source variants exist.

Realplayer used to have a big load of spyware with it and it still gives me some shivers with all those little extra bundles it installs with itself (plus the bulkiness that nova mentioned). Real Alternative's the codec I use for .rm content. I cannot comment on any other player, though.

I use WinAmp, ZoomPlayer and Media Player Classic...
Media Player Classic is a sourceforge.net project and with the right plugins
you can also play real media files and quick time files...
It´s small...i had not one crash with this proggie yet and it´s pretty easy to use.
