| Upcoming Legend | Please help me!! For the longest time, I could burn cd's and such with my burner. I had bought "imation" brand cd's, and those still work fine, but now, I can't find that brand anymore... I tried burning sony brand and it didn't work... I have no more imation, and I can't get them...the reason I bring up brands is because a general error message said to try a different brand of cd... so does that really matter? I have a _NEC NR-7900A brand cd-r burner(yea..-_-),, so is there any way that I could download something or do something to make it burn my 49 sony disks that are currently collecting dust?? (my os is WindowsXP, and I havie a dell comp.) |

![]() ![]() Credits: 195 | i think the problem isn't with your drive. its with your burning software (i think) what software are you using? i've got a memorex cd-rw external with nero 6 on a dell laptop running winXPpro w/ sp2 and it'll let me burn any CD-R and CD-RW i want. it doesn't care! but i had another make burning software a while back before my old mitsumi cd-recorder broke that was really twitchy about what kinda of disks it took, sometimes it would take a foreign brand, sometimes it wouldn't. you can download a 30 day free trial of nero 6 and test the theory and then if you like it i think its only about 20-25 dollars for a full version. hope this helps! ![]()

Yes, in this case, firmware is most likely the cause of your problem. Most "generic" cd burner drives can support media to a certain point. However you can update firmware for the drive so it can recognize more newer types of CD-R /RW media. Upgrade your firmware, and if you have any problems post installation, then you might have a faulty drive.

![]() ![]() Credits: 195 | well i know it should make a difference but it doesn't really. there is no pratical difference between the CD-R's for data as for music. i've found that there is absolutly no difference in quality of retention or anything. it seems that its just another way for the media manufacturers to suck more money out of you.

I've also used "easy cd creator v.5.0" (i know its butt old), but I've also used some trials and other cd burning software that I downloaded off the net. New versions and old ones.... On an error message it says "E80041882: CD error - power calibration area error - [3/73/03] I tried to find anything about this error messege, but failed misserably... there seems to be no information on it at all. Also, it doesn't even start the burning of the cd... it just ejects it(stuffy ba***) Last edited by youth_anime_fan; Jan 19, 2005 at 03:28 PM.
