first of all, if your not video editing, you dont even need divx or xvid to begin with. the only codec youll need is ffdshow, that covers both of those. and for players, media player classic is my top pick but it really depends on personal taste.

Hey Hey Hey... guys just calm down...

My first post... I ´ll try put everything that i know about xvid divx and ogm codecs...

First of all, don´t waste your time with BsPlayer, 321Players, Winamp and other players... they are all good, just pick one that you like...
Just remind... don´t use Windows Media Player

Sound Problem! If you can see the video, but no sound, problably your codec is not updated, or it´s an divx3 with AC3 sound codec... you need grab one on emule or kazaa... it´s really easy to find, but a little hard to install and register...

    Video Problem!
Perhaps you don´t have any codec installed, go get on
    http://www.divx.com/
    http://www.xvid.org/

XviD: Problably the green screen it´s a XviD conflict version... go to www.xvid.com and search for the latest compiled version
DivX: Disable all options on codec... some options (like YUV) bugs the video
OgM: Never had any kind of problem

Sound and Video not been displayed:
Codec not installed... or you Player is really bad
