    Question Cosplay...

I'm interested if anyone has gone to an anime convention, and actually did some cosplay (dressed up in a costume, for those who don't know LoL)

The reason for my asking is - a friend suggested that we go to an upcoming convention in my area... And cosplay... But I've never done it (been to conventions, yes... cosplay...no....) We have a few ideas to work with. We know an adorable Korean lady who would make out costumes for us, we just have to decide which characters we're gonig to be! Here's what we have so far:

    1. Spike and Vicious - Bebop
    2. Vash and Knives - Trigun
    3. Yuna and Tidus -FFX

By the by - I'm a girl... and my friend thinks that would be a problem...

Any advice would be most appreciated!!

A lot of times girls do go as male characters. I think that somehow, with certain characters.. having girls cosplay as male characters look better. Some male anime characters do have feminine traits to them, so it seems better to have girls cosplay as them.

    Re: Cosplay...

I agree. It has been common practice in many theatres (this doesn't just mean stage performance) that females pose as males (Shakespere was the other way about). As for an opinion on appearence the I would suggest something out of the norm. FF tends to be widely impersonated. As such I would personally avoid. Next I would decide how extrovert I wanted to be. If I was conservative I would stick to something familiar like Bebop or if I want to make a statement I would wear something big and loud (but never flashy). The same will go for your friend (what gender are they?). At the end of the day it is your choice and the above is my opinion. So choose what feels right and enjoy the attention.

    Re: Cosplay...

Thanks for all your input! My friend and I talked it over (my firend is a guy, by the way) and we decided on Bebop... Myself as Spike, he as Vicious. BUT - We are going to blow all other Bebop ocsplayers out of the water. Our costumes are going to be as exact as can possibly get! I've seen some Bebop cosplayers... And well... Their costumes were a little tacky (not to be mean!) I even went so far as to get those theatre ciggerettes for a little extra effect.

So I suppose it's decided... I wanted to post up this thread because... as I said... I've never done cosplay! Anyway... thanks again...

    Ending extremly long posting...

Wow, BustAngel... that'll be revealing cosplay

You've gotta be pretty self-secure to cosplay, cos you're definitely drawing lots of attention (and criticism) to yourself. But if you're up for it, it makes sense. Cons are supposed to be fun and maybe a bit ridiculous (the prices sure are!). Memorize a bunch of Bebop's best quotes and have a great time!

If you want get the attention and criticism of everyone at any anime expo what you can do is this, find a big card box, make two little wholes for the eyes, then make a another whole for the mouth, decorate it with some colors to make it look pretty kool.
