I guess the Anime Fandom for Japan and other places are very different.....like LenMiyata said, other animes that became popular in the US were actually cancelled or did poorly in Japan. So I think what some anime companies are doing is trying out the animes that did poorly in Japan to other markets like the US. :D
Anime is not new to US, but somehow only the ones that did poorly in Japan are the ones getting very popular in US. I mean I like Shinichiro Watenabe's Cowboy Bebop.....but I don't think this anime did good in Japan. To me, it all depends on content, exposure, and how close the anime is to the original manga. :D
Maybe Esthered is right, perhaps the people in Japan that loves anime might have been overexposed and has become picky or tired of seeing animes based in samurai, ninja, or what not! :D
Anime 4-Lyf!
I would love to see a picture of that as well!Quote:

mea culpa time here,
Shinichiro Watanabe is the director of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop...
Shinichi Watanabe is the director of Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi and Tenchi Muyo GXP, (and has the Afro), I claim old age for the faulty memory (grumble grumble grumble)...
As proof... (It's not pretty folks...)Quote:

lol! That's great!
Personally my guess is that it's because we haven't been exposed to as much anime outside of Japan so we tend to be less discerning. Perhaps if we had as many choices as they do we wouldn't like them either.
I do think their tastes are different. Maybe they don't like to mix their traditional stuff with the new culture? (Ok, that doesn't seem very likely...)
But it's clear when you lok at the magical girl stuff like Mr LenMiyata mentioned earlier.
