David Lynch, no other director has EVER challenged me the way he has. His style is so odd, dark and abstract and really innovative. Also, because he leaves so much room for your own interpritation of his films. He never really gives any solid explinations to his weirdness (which i hated at first but have come to appreciate) and always makes films that are so far from commercial and cookie cutter.
If you'd like to know more about him and his work wonder on to www.davidlynch.de
Well I'm a big fan (like many) of Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Ridley Scott, Sam Raimi, M. Night Shayamalan, of course Spielberg, and Lucas (even though its a love/hate relationship with him).
No one mentioned Martin Scorsese,Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa ? Damn, you've been missing out if you have not seen any films produced by these directors.
My list:
Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill saga and Pulp Fiction)
Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report and Jurassic Park)
Ridley Scott (The Gladiator and Black Hawk Down)
The Wachowski Brothers (Only the first episode of the Matrix trilogy)
Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather Trilogy)
Brian de Palma (Scarface)
Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings Trilogy)
And just to add a game director Hideo Kojima, the founder of stealth games and the Metal Gear franchise.
Quentin Tarantino, he's a great director with a surreal view and he's a real nice guy.
Peter Jackson, George Lucas, and Steven Speilburg.
I like directors that can make fantasy/the fantastic look real.
Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton. ^^
