The style is cool, it's the locations that become inappropreiate.
Graffiti style art, is art. If the artist doesn't have permission/own the wall, it is also vandalism. Most graffeti is NOT art and IS most definatly vandalism. It is also disrespectful, an eyesore, and lowers the quality of the neiborhood.
Having said that, yes, when I was a stupid teenager I was guilty of tagging. Notice that I admitted to my stupidity. Anyone who spends hours painting a wall without persmission and then is upset when the owner paints over it is also showing a coresponding lack of intelligence.

dark is right, graffitti is cool as much as I hate it, especially the the way it can write words and etc...yes it's illegal to throw it on any wall and school desk
I think grafitti is getting a bad name because of the gang names done in grafitti...

and the overall poor excuses of graffiti. Because none of the "gangs" in my area can draw. Graffiti style gets it good and bad name from gangs.
Okay graffiti is always art but its vandalism when it destroys property. back in high school i was a big fan of graffiti, but it does have a negative image because of its use. its a rebellious style of art unfortunately and some artists dont get the credit they deserve.
Around here, most of graffiti is vandalism, but there are ppl who let them do it, and makes the place look a litle better.

The alley behind my apartment is a war zone, half of it is legit artistic graffiti and the other half is gang-tagging. That's what you get when you live smack dab in the middle of gang land. Another day another adventure
Graffiti is art, nomather where it is painted.
