does sexuality in games effect children?

Ive been thinking alot about how pop culture and the like imprint images into ppls head, perticularly children. Im against children playing video games other than those involving strategy. Besides that, The game Grand theft auto San andreas my brothers have been getting really into, some of the concepts in the game are brilliant, but terribly innapropriate, there are missions where you beat female strippers! Other missions and steps to achieving goals, are to sleep with hookers, uh HELLO! Why are parents buying these games for their children! OMG I played like final fantasy 1 and 2 and stuff when i was little! also, this will effect children, drastically, it clouds their proccessing, videogames generally kill their imagination, so do some sports and other things that allow little of ones own thoughts. All these heterosexual relation ships portayed everywhere, thats gonna screw up the kids even more, forcing them to follow a path they dont personally feel is right, personal pressure is an epidemic, even though many will deny it, it effects xchildren in very perverse ways. It can give them problems, just the fact trhat they can exept they need to change themselves. Well what are youyr opinions?

Well just like the violence and videogame thread, I must say that the person playing must be suseptable to such things in oreder for it to effect their train of thought.

Also there are many other things that are going to effect kids besides videogames that it really doesn't matter wether or not they play them. I mean even if you could eliminate such games from a child's viewing they're going to hear or see the same thing somewhere else.
Dreams come true, but nightmares do too.

Life isn't a game, it's just a referal to the time you exist on this playground called Earth.

I think its ok to view/play entertainment involving these matters, depending on the children. If the kid can't draw a line between a video game/movie or real life, then they should'nt be watching/playing them. I dont think it would be fair to ban these things to children, but it should be up to the parents. kids can get there hands on anything they want usually, but the parents should disciple they're children more. either that, or they should be able to say ''hmm, i dont think our little tommy can play GTA and be mature about it''. I had, and still have, a wild imagination. I played voilent games and watched movies with sexuality, but I knew it was just a movie/game. I didnt run around at school saying ''ORYUKEN'' and giving my classmate an uppercut. lol.

I think sexuality in games has nothing to do with the youth. Or adults. It's just what sells right now. Think about it. Sex sells. Music videos are nothing but tamed pornos. (rap)

So many ads and commercials. It's just what consumers are looking for right now.

You said it for me, Kasai. Sex sells, and I've been seeing tiny girls looking sluttier and sluttier than ever. O_o my 12 year old cousin asked me how to *cough* give a blowjob ! *cough* I would have to say the media has corrupted children, because it's everywhere, but I wouldn't blame it on GTA though.
    much love to socketto

agreed... can't really blame it on games cause who buys the games for them???? most of the stores i've been had signs that said you needed to be a certain age to buy mature/teen games. or at least have a guardian with you.

btw mamimi, that must have been tough to have your cousin yeah...

Saying that if they don't get it at home they'll get it elsewhere is a copout. Fact is up to a certain age childrens main influence is the home and what they are exposed to there. This is the same age that is NOT supposed to be exposed to such things. If it's not in the home when they do run into it elsewhere all you have to do is explain that it's something they will learn more about as they get older. Beleive it or not most children are fine with this explaination. When they're not THEN you can explain it to them.

Does it affect them? As a mother I can tell you, YES! I had to ban wrestling and all fighting games from my son because he was to young to understand that it's just a game. At that age they DO what they SEE. Once he got a younger brother it became even more important that he not try and wrestle or fight with the baby. I'm about to have to ban him from the TMNT cartoon because he has started jump kicking people. And before you think I have an unusual child, I don't. I compare notes with several mothers and they have had the same trouble.

Children under the age of 8 do what they see and don't understand the difference between reality and fantesy sufficienty to judge what is and is not appropriate behavior. If you don't want them to do it don't let them see it.
