    Eu?

This is for all of you in Europe.

I have been hearing alot about the European Union lately. That it is an attempt to place all of Europe under one flag and government. That it would basically rob each individual country of it's individual soverignty. That most citizens are actually against it even if their governments are for it.

All the Countries where the EU Constitution is going to referendum seem to be voting it down including France.

So here's my question, what is really up? Is it a good thing or bad?
I would love to hear what is happening from the POV of someone living through it.

Europe wants to stand tall and be powerful/important like major countries in the world.

Uniting all the small countries and making them a bigger more powerful entity. The referendum which France and the Netherlands voted NON/NEE (no) on was about a single European constitution.

The problem is that most people didn't vote 'no' because they didn't like the constitution but because they didn't like their country's government or the way that the EU is adding more and more countries to the union...

from my understanding of it, the eu doesn't want the countries to become one massive country but it's just a council that helps direct the europe as a whole, the countries will still have their own soverienty they will just be influenced by the rest of europe. it also gives aid to the smaller countries i beleive, i'm gonna go search it.

ok done that, i found this i hope that gives some info, i think it's a good idea, it means that all the smaller countries in europe get support, just so long as they stay individual.

First of all, do not mistake, (perhaps between the similarity between the Union word in EU and United in USA) that the EU wants to create a federated unique state, at least not for now.

The problem with the New Constitution, is that there are different types of arguments against it, either social people who want it to be more social, or nationalists who think countries lose power.

I personally appreciate the EU, and I have an inside view, since my mother has for a long time worked for the European Commission. It is not perfect, but it's far better than before.

Trade is easier. You used to need a huge stack to get across Europe. Now you need 1 piece of paper.

I have been given the impression that the Constitution being voted on would be the first step toward just that. That it does dissolve some soverignty and that's why there are objections. Are the reports I'm reading overreacting? Or does it remove some powers from the countries involved and give them to the E Union officials and judges?

PS. Thanks for the link deaths_raver. I'll have a look at it when I have some time.
PPS. Sorry about that Zui Quan. lol
