I'm not sure how you can compare Flash to HTML.
Flash: Macromedia proprietary program to make pretty pictures. It's fun to use but not necessary
HTML: anyone with a text editor and web host can use it. Website won't exist without it.
It's like comparing tires to custom rims.

Another reason I don't like Flash:
It's a standard owned and kept secret by Macromedia. This is what prevents me from having 64-bit version because I have to depend on Macromedia, and they don't seem to care. An open standard would increase multi-platform ability. HTML however is an open standard that anyone can implement without having to reverse engineer it.

It run using the .SWF = Flash publishing. See for your self. Have you ever used flash ? I mean the software ? Do you know what is actionscript ?

Html is use to keep out the swf from stretching vertor graphic.

ActionScript is essentially a modified JavaScript for making the Flash graphics program interactive. Just because the page has an ".swf" extention, does not mean that the page is exclusively Flash content.
I don't use flash because I don't have any need or desire to use it. I find overuse of Flash to be annoying. It's nice to have Flash elements embedded into a webpage, but making an entire page with Flash is overkill in my book. Eventually it can bog down a site.
I'm familiar with Flash, but I can't justify buying a license to develop with it. And since I'm no thief like 90% of the people who use Flash, I won't download it illegally.

I never really liked flash being buggy as it is.
